A dignified home for Patrick's family

When we visited Patrick at home for the first time, I was shocked by the conditions we found. Patrick is HIV-positive and needs regular wound care due to a chronic wound on his ankle. He is in a lot of pain but cannot rest his leg. He earns his income from growing corn, banana trees and vegetables. The single father's main goal is to keep his three children (aged 14, 15 and 16) in school. When we visited, I asked him if he needed anything else. Embarrassed, he asked for a blanket. I asked him if I could take a look inside his hut (approx. 8m2). I noticed that the family did not even have a mattress. They slept on the floor on a thin sheet. The money is just enough for school fees and food. If that.
Thanks to your support, we were able to buy mattresses and some kitchen utensils for the family. Nevertheless, the living situation is very cramped. All four sleep in a very small space and the toilet is a small hole in the bush. There is no privacy. In addition, the landowner threatens to take the land away from Patrick at any time and use it for his own purposes. Then he and his three children would be left with nothing. Thanks to your donations, we were able to buy him a piece of land nearby (400 m2). Together with the local organization "He is the Remedy", we will build him and his three children a small hut with two bedrooms and a protected outhouse. He will use the surrounding land as farmland. In a few weeks, Patrick and his children will be able to move into their new home.
We thank you for your help!
Your Salome

Update November 2025 – Sad News:
Last year, we were able to provide Patrick Obonyo and his three children with a home of their own. A few weeks ago, Patrick was unfortunately found dead under unclear circumstances. We are in contact with an organisation that is now providing psychological and practical support to the children. We will continue to support them financially in their education.
